Fall Decor

Last week my days consisted of this:

I attempted potty training my 2 year old.  She used the potty as a stool and peed on top of it.

She peed on me.
And after numerous hours of sitting on the potty and watching All Dogs Go To Heaven over and over and over, she finally went IN the potty.  However, by day four she still wouldn't tell me when she had to go so I ended up cleaning up a lot of pee and becoming very frustrated.  I mean really, is it worth sitting in the bathroom for six hours a day waiting for her to go?  Not for me.  Not yet.  So, the next day I put a diaper on her and we had a picnic at the park.  It was a lot more fun and rewarding.

But... while I was sitting in the bathroom with her for hours and hours during those few days, I did a little fall decor project.

It started with this oval frame that my friend gave me.  I painted it white with an acrylic paint.

I did one white coat then painted Weathered Wood on top.  It makes the frame look crackled and antique when it's done.

Next I painted one more coat of white on top and this is what it looks like.

I wrapped two autumn garlands that we already had around the frame.  Then I hot glued a strip of burlap to the back of the frame and to a smaller frame that would hang in the middle.

I previously painted the glass that went in the frame with chalkboard paint (which is totally the in thing right now).

And finally I decided that I didn't like the black frame so I painted it white.  And here is the fall wreath as of this morning.

Linking up at these parties.  Check them out!

  1. heyyyy you made it look so cute! see i told you i didn't need that frame :) itd still be sittin in my closet if you didn't graciously take it :) looks great!!
And keep with it with morgan.. but i must say.. if shes not ready... then just wait till she is.. thats what i was doin with arli.. but now shes ready (again) and she's been wearing underwear for 2 weeks now.. accidents here and there but doin awesome.

  2. The wreath turned out great! All I can say about potty training kids is when they are ready, they are ready. MY son turned three, went in and went potty and literally never had an accident again. It was just his time!

  3. i love the wreath, the white frame really pops! I just did some potty training myself, have you read the ebook on the 3 day potty training method? It's awesome and came highly recommended by some friends!

  4. I like the white frame better too. Good luck w/ the potty training.

  5. Stopping by from Type A, Anything Goes, and this is so gorgeous. I love what you did with the frame and the "weathering" I have got to try that!

  6. Cute wreath! We are in the throes of potty training too...so not fun!

  7. Love the door wreath...adorable. I remember my daughter was 27 months, the dogs followed her into the bathroom, she said " out puppies" sat on the potty and went... I asked if she wanted a diaper at bed she said yes, then a few days later she said "no diaper now"...and that was it. She trained herself. It's only a few months away she will be on the pot when SHE'S ready. Good luck! Oh p.s people lie about their kids being trained too. My old neighbor started just after a year and her child ruined her couch!! Bet she says her kids were trained at a year!

    Hugs Giggles

  8. Love the frame. I bet a picinic in the park was a great way to destress. It's not worth getting both you and your baby girl stressed over the potty, she will get it.

  9. You creative an adorable door wreath, and so festive too!

Thank you for linking to Potpourri Friday. I appreciated your participation. Sorry I'm so tardy in commenting, but I've been away for the past four days. Hope to see you again this week!

  10. Oh, what a cute wreath. Good luck with the potty training. I always let my boys tell me when they were ready. For each it was about 3-31/2. Some people were always shocked I let them wear diapers that long, but it was their bodies and after trying it with my first I decided they could tell me when they were ready. They were very aware and it usually took about 72 hours and they were ready. LOL
Thank you for linking it up with Home Sweet Home!
